This. As someone in retail, customers like OP are just the worst. We're supposed to ask you these questions because it's our job. We're supposed to get you to spend more money because it's our job. We're supposed to get you to sign up for stuff because, wait for it...
It's our job.
When you decide to take it both negatively and personally, all you're doing is making an ass of yourself. One that every employee will make fun of and mock as soon as you leave. Hell, I've seen customers mock people who act like this, too. |
Been there when I was younger. I remember a sales position where they had this whole script where you didn't take no for an answer. You just pivot from objections and pose questions in ways to get people to agree to the product. It sucks and you'd make lots of people angry, but on a large sample I saw it work hundreds of times how easily people could be manipulated into buying stuff. I definitely had people get mad like the OP and even yell or threaten me or co-workers, but basically if we didn't do that we got fired. Doing that made me far more sympathetic to sales people. You can grumble about companies or practices, but the people at the bottom doing the jobs have no say and are just doing it to make rent and buy food.
