If your used copy goes bad outside of the First month, odds are it's your own fault. 

It could be that maybe it got one additional scratch after a certain amount of time which was the last straw for it but if it was a new copy, it would have been able to endure it for a lot longer.

Which again, goes back to why I hate buying used games. The reason it failed isn't because of say the one additional scratch, it failed because of all the scratches leading upto it + the additional scratch.
