I think Sony will look and see how it does against the Pro, if it just continues off where we already are (i.e equalish in the USA but PS4/Pro ahead europe), I suspect sony will be happy to hold it out for a bit longer to ensure they get the right next gen hardware at the right cost.

Agree, and I think Sony will consider what happened in the previous gens too: XB360 launched early, but it quickly lost its lead on Wii and slowly lost it on PS3 too, while Wii U did even worse, quicly losing it on both PS4 and XBOne, and, unlike XB360, that's become the best selling last ranking console in a gen ever, even outselling the best sellers of several previous gens, it failed miserably too.
