They could launch all the Nintendo games in March easily (TO OTHER USERS, WARNING: SARCASM!!!) if there was a great third party support after that. The third party games are usually what avoid long gaps and ensure the momentum in sales.
It works really well with the 3DS, you don't get Nintendo games every month on it, and it still sells well all the time thanks to the other games. Too bad they have trouble with it on home consoles.
