As for the quest you are refering, which I imagine is the war god's axe quest, try this: Put everyone's tactics to "do nothing" and use Oliver's pulse spell to hit the golden familiar that drops the item. The pulse spell always gets a "nice" bonus which gives a chance to get a golden blim, if thats the case switch so Swaine to grab it and his Miracle Move guarantees you get the most uncommon item the familiar drops, which is the one you need for the quest. I had to learn this method to finish the quest, because otherwise I'd just leave it, since its too much time consuming.

Yeah, that's the quest. I've been trying the golden glim/pulse trick but my luck would have it such that I'm only getting golden glims in al the other battles. It doesn't help that the golden Humpy-Trumper only shows up once in a while.
