Since the other thread got locked, just a little right up to why I personnaly stand against the ban. I am not under the illusion that my position is the only rational option, however I do like to believe that it is, for the very least, thought out.
I personnaly believe that the actions taken are ridiculous, because they pose a makor inconvenience to combat a truly insignificant problem for the US, if you look at it statistically. There have been less than 200 people killed by terrorism in the United States since the 9/11 attacks, which have instigated increased security. In the same time frame, half a million americans died in car crashes. Terrorism just does not pose a noticeable threat to american citizens. It's an artifical fear, created by media overrepresentation of the issue. Nonetheless, to combat terrorism, Trump has decided to create policies which not only messes with the lives of what I assume to be hundreds of thousands of people (such as the case I personnaly know of, described in the original post - worse for people that actually have their homes in the US, and can't return) but also alineates other nations further. Improvment in the dialogue with Iran was a long and ardeous battle (largely thanks to some highly moraly ambiguous interventions by the CIA some 50 - 60 years ago, that the US has never acknowledged). This resets years of diplomatic efforts. And like them or not, having a dangerous state hate you less is always better. Several dual citizens of US allies have also been turned back. At that, it is very questionable if the method used even adresses the problem it was supposed to solve. The countries involved do not represent a significant proportion of the (already few) terrorists in the united states, who majoritarily are either homegrown or come from other nations. And I do realize that it would perhaps not have been possible to ban the other nations in question - that however has no implication in the argument if it is logical to ban immigration in the countries of the current list. As a whole, the move will aslo instigate anger among the muslim population towards the united states - let's not forget that this very anger is for the most part responsible for the terrorism against the nation. |
I'm missing context on what you are replying to and also not sure what your point is other than to say you think the TEMP ban based on intel by the DHS under the Obama administration is unnecessary. If that is the case then we can agree to disagree.
Regarding the bold, I couldn't disagree with you more on that if I tried.
EDIT: Also this is now OT as it relates to this thread. Either create a new one or we can close this loop. The moderator closed the other thread for a reason.
