I think some of you may be misunderstanding what this is. These aren't going to be human/pig hybrids in the sense that they are literally half pig and half human or anything. These will be pigs, with human cells spread throughout their bodies, that allow them to grow human-compatible organs. They aren't more intelligent than regular pigs. They won't have human physical features beyond some internal organs like hearts or livers or whatever. Creating and butchering one of these for organ transplants is no different than breeding and butchering pigs for food.

Now yeah, one day maybe we can use this science to breed pigs with actual human brains or something, but the science for that is even further out than the science for this stuff, and is also genuinely unethical and kind of pointless to do from a medical perspective.

If we can figure this out, it'll be a boon for medical science. The problem with human heart transplants isn't that we don't have enough people donating their organs when they die. In many cases, the organs aren't useable. In others, they are old. There is the issue of compatibility with patients. And then there is the medical regiments patients have to go through afterwards, which someone else here already went into.

I'd recommend watching this video from SciSchow, which explains things pretty clearly:
