The only people who cheer for Nintendo to go third party, IMO, are not long-time Nintendo fans, but people who want to be able to play Mario or Zelda on PC or PS or Xbox.

Nintendo certainly needs to learn from their Wii U era mistakes, but I think the day they went third party, would be a very sad day for the industry. And you could pretty much say goodbye to any new entries in the vast majority of their franchises. They would just become a homogenized "Mario and Zelda and Pokemon" machine at that point

Or maybe they were big Nintendo fans back in the NES ad SNES era, but once a new company came along with more appealing HW, they jumped ship.

Also, this no new SW argument from Nintendo fans is completely baseless and untrue.  We get new IPs EVERY SINGLE GEN.  Who puts out those IPs?  Publishers who have been known for other IPs in the past.  Sure, they continue to rely on their more famous ones to pay the bills, but that's not all they pump out.  And with indies being able to self-publish, now, we're getting even more gaming experiences.  And really, the only example people have is Sega.  Of course, they were having financial and quality problems before they left the HW market.  It's actually the reason people abandoned them.  If you think Nintendo would go down that route, that says more about Nintendo than I think you want it to.
