I am not exactly sure how they will go forward with naming systems, but whatever they do, there is no doubt PlayStation software will play on all PlayStation devices going forward.

At this point I think Sony should be upgrading on every new fabrication process. PS4 revisions for 10nm, 7nm, and 3nm should happen in 2018, 2020, and 2023. They should continue to support the PS4 and PS4 OS going forward, and maybe just rebrand things under the PlayStation OS.

I also think PSVR revisions should be happening at the same rate. A PSVR 2 in 2018 with 1440P HDR display, a PSVR 3 in 2020 with 1800P, and a 4K PSVR 4 in 2023. Again, they need to keep compatability across devices, at least at the headset/display level. With perhapps better tracking equipment and controllers being required at some point, but again being back and forward compatable between all PS4 products.

At this point the PSOS needs to compete with Windows, iOS, and Android. That means more hardware, more software, and forward/backwards compatability. All PlayStation software running on all PlayStation devices Home or mobile. This is really the only route they can take to have continued success.

I doubt Sony is worried about getting into any and every market, like MS is.  You don't succeed by entering a market 2-3 years or more too late, that already has a VERY clear 1st and 2nd winner and hope to spend your way to 1st, again, like MS.  In fact, they are doing the exact opposite, getting rid of or spending less money on markets they aren't doing so hot in.  It's a much better business plan for them at this point.
