How can Russia take over the EU ? France has nuclear weapon that would be crazy to attack EU with that kind of threat. I don't see Russia winning a war against EU unless there is a direct intervention of US troops and I find hard to believe that american citizens would die to make war to europeans for Russia.  Honestly I think that a war between EU and Russia is very unlikely because both would loose too much.  However without NATO Russia has much more room to take countries that were inside the USSR and are not in the EU such as Georgia etc.
