Yeah MS is probably loseing Jan by like 100k or more to the PS4, in the US. Im not sure why Xbox only really "try" at the end of the year, to win the holidays instead of also trying the months that lead up to it. Xbox One sales are going to drop off (abit) leading up to the release of the Scorpio too (because people are waiting for it, instead of buying). |
I think we often forget that, from a amrketing and operations perspective, MS really just has to move a lot of units in the fiscal year for it to be successful. Winning NPDs or month-on-month WW sales are great for revenue, but not that effective as marketing tools. When they close out their income statements, they really just care that annual bottom line made sense. In my opinion, the XBox is now a brand that they use to assert themselves in the living room. Once the consumer is comfortable with MS as part of their entertainment center, they can push the seemingly inevitable Windows Live and Hololens platforms on them later. If I was MS, my orimary concern would be how much their profitability is affected by their holiday advertising and their price cuts, not competitive placement.
