Brands like MS/Apple dont like piggy backing others. Its all about the dollar bill. Halo is the only thing that can show its worth the Hardware buisness. The thing with the Xbox hardware is that it doesn't matter if it's not raking in the Billions, it helps sell Microsoft's services and locks people into Microsoft's ecosystem.
Music, Video, Skype, Xbox Live subs, Internet Explorer (Ad revenue)... It all adds up.
It's their Phone business that is on shakey ground at the moment. Microsoft isn't iterating fast or substantually enough... And they are bleeding marketshare.
Plus pretty much every service and app on Windows Phone is on Android/iOS anyway.
