DF's opinion of the differences between 900p and 1080p are pretty consistent with how they feel about checkerboard 1800p and native 4k. The only major variation is the context of those resolutions. When the PS4 and X1 released, 1080p was seen as the expected standard. When the X1 often missed that targeted, it was disappointing for many. But what do you think about Digital Foundry affecting the sales of game consoles with very early spec leaks of hardware that is not even finalized yet. Some people are saying they changed their minds about pre-ordering the Switch because of DF's opinion. No one knows the real specs of the Switch yet.

While i'm against leaks more often than i'm in favour of them, hardware spec leaks are one of the types i approve of. They don't spoil much, just allow the consumer to make a more educated purchase. If the leak is wrong and the actual specs are something the person who cancelled their pre-order is happy with then they'll still buy the system, it'll just be a bit later. If the leak is right however, then that consumer was able to avoid disappointment. I consider that an overall positive risk.

Personally, i wouldn't pre-order the Switch right now even if i thought it was going to be the best thing ever. If a company (in this instance Nintendo) isn't interested in providing me the information necessary for me to be fully informed, then i'm likewise not interested in being an early adopter.
