They did technically say it, but it was likley a miscommunication. If you look up the original reveal trailer, someone claims it will offer the "highest res, highest frame-rates, no compromises". Strictly speaking that says it'll do both at the same time, since the absence of one is obviously a compromise.
As i said though, i'm of the opinion it was just poor wording. In general the reveal trailer seems a bit rushed; it has several really odd statements, like the claim it has the 'highest quality pixels anyone has ever seen'. You can work out what the guy meant, but the wording makes the literal statement really silly.
