But a site highly regarded like Digital Foundry should not be lowering themselves down to the level of common rumor mongers. YouTube already has millions of them already. |
If they got information from someone on the inside who is breaking a NDA, then the information isn't rumour and it's likely to be accurate and credible. So if DF believes their source to be reliable, credible and accurate why wouldn't they use it? If the infomration is shown to be inaccurate then DF should stop using that source for information and publicly acknowledge that their information and conclusions were wrong.
People breaking confidences is half of what news has always been about. It is partly why freedom of speech and press freedom laws are all about. If you get information you are not legally obligated to keep secret then you have freedom under the law to make the information public, and the press has an extra measure of freedom under various conditions, because it is in the public interest, generally, for news media to be able to publish information that the great and the powerful would rather keep hidden. DF is part of the news media for gaming.
