Melee not being at the arena seems to be a weird choice, considering the game gets more views than Wii U, but I guess this is EVO's of compensating Wii U players last year.

Melee getting more views than Smash 4 is a reality as of now, but one that might be a bit twisted. It's obvious Melee inherently gets a lot more viewers than Smash 4 by mere virtue of being part of the finals day - so this year we get to see how Smash 4's viewership truly compares.

There's plenty of Smash-focused tournaments where Smash 4 has more viewers than Melee, as well as many tournaments where Melee dominates. The same applies to players. In the end, it's just hard to determine which game is more popular at the moment - but what definitely is a fact, is that Smash 4 has more competitive players in the biggest tournaments, including Evo.

Melee is inherently and obviously more popular than Smash 4 in the competitive fighting scene, there are leagues all over the place.
