Nintendo isn't really on their own timeline. They're just sticking with the 5-6 years between gens. Last gen got Sony and MS off a little, as they went 7-8 years.  I think this gen they're going back to at most 6.  So, the Switch is still next gen, regardless of power. It's coming out ~6 years after the 3DS and ~5 years after the Wii U, so no difference in time there.

I went back and checked the dates.  It's a combination of Sony releasing at more spaced out intervals, Xbox doing the same but with a smaller sample size, and Nintendo releasing more rapidly than the others for the last couple of generations.

PS1 - Sept 1995 (North America) - came out Dec 1994 in Japan
PS2 - Spring 2000 - 5.5 years North America
PS3 - Fall 2006 - 6.5 years
PS4 - Fall 2013 - 7 years

XBox - Nov 2001 (NA)
XBox  360 - Nov 2005 - 4 years
XBone One - Nov 2013 (NA) - 8 years later

NES - October 1985 (NA)
Super Nintendo - Aug 1991 (NA) - 6 years
Nintendo 64 -  Sept 1996 (NA) -  5 years later in North America
GameCube - Fall 2001 - 5 years North America
Wii - Fall 2006 - 5 years
WiiU - Fall 2012 - 6 years
Switch - Spring 2017 - 4.5 years

Nintendo generally releases consoles more often, and it's getting to the point now where the generations don't align.  While the 360 was released fast, Microsoft any Sony re-aligned with the XBox One/PS5.  You can call it Nintendo releasing faster or Sony releasing over a longer time frame - it's the same effect.  If Nintendo releases the next console post-Switch 5 years later in 2012, that will only be 2-3 years after the next Playstation Console.  This only re-aligns if the Switch is an enormous success and Nintendo waits 8 years before releasing another system.

The problem with the Switch in the timeline is that it is not only a successor to the Wii U, but also the 3DS.  That would make its launch 6 years after the 3DS debuted.  So, nothing really different from the 5-6 years.  I expect Sony to go back to a 6 year schedule this gen, releasing the PS5 in 2019.  Even if Nintendo continues to release 2 years before Sony does, it doesn't really change them being in the same gen.
