The problem with the US isn't that they aren't producers. its that its cheaper to manufacture what the make outside the states.
The other problem is that what they make mostly isn't as god as what others make, so even the americans typicaly prefer to buy foreign products as opposed to their own domestic products.
This trade tarriff nonsense is a cheap cop out. Its like saying, we know your stuff is better and even cheaper than ours. So we will artifically make your stuff more expensive that way our citizens don't have a choice buut to buy domestic stuff.
All round silly plan because if its leads to a trade war it will affect NA more than anyone else. Just imagine every country imposing extremely high tarriffs on american products. That movie ticket for american movies? Imagine it now costing $35 instead of $10.
