The Neo Geo, which is usually brought up as a counterpoint, was not made to win; it's a console that is an odd outlier because virtually every other console ever made was intended to win over the market and beat the other consoles in the market. Nothing about the Neo Geo ever suggested that its manufacturer cared about market share. Just look at the hardware and software prices. The system was made to bring an authentic arcade experience to people's homes and everything about it was priced accordingly.

If mid-gen upgrades count, what about the Mega-CD? Plays exclusive CD-games and boosts MegaDrive games, Scorpio (might) play exclusive VR games, boost XB1 games.
