I'm no expert on trade deals, yet claiming it's a oneway street doesn't fly with me. How can the trade deal between USA and Canada decimate both our economies... Canada invested too much in tar sands thinking peak oil had already been reached.
But he's right in one thing, if you want to support your own economy, buy local. Yet what is he going to do so people can afford to buy locally made products. Simply making foreign made products more expensive isn't going to make locally made goods more competitive. It's funny, what he wants is basically the same as raising tax. Buy local, hire local, or pay more, and thus generate more tax. It leads to the same effect, reduce your addictive consumer lifestyle and lower purchasing power. We'll see if protectionism can work this time.
