So media outlets and people who have actually played them aren't normal people and gamers?

Just accept your opinion is not gospel on this one than trying to attempt damage control and insulting people mate as I've seen people recieve warnings for less.

Yeah. I don't think the media outlets are normal people or normal gamers. There don't seem to be that many people that have actually played the games, not to mention people who have played them beyond the first impression.

Pretty sure I read they have more critically acclaimed games above 90 on Metacritic than on any other current gen system.

Mario Kart 8 - 88
Smash 4 - 92
Mario 3D World - 93
Pikmin 3 - 87
Bayonetta 2 - 91
Legend of Zelda Wind Wakewr HD - 90
Super Mario Maker - 88

Etc.
If you haven't heard praise for most of Nintendo's WiiU games, I don't know what to tell you.
Most of Nintendo's biggest titles were not tied to the Gamepad, coincidentally. Besides Star Fox.

As for why a large amount of the Wii crowd went to mobile, I suggest reading one of the many articles on the subject.
But basically, the low entry point and gimmic of the Wii appealed to people who normally don't games. Soccer moms got Wii Fit to get in shape, and the way you play Wii Sports appealed to people who were never invested in consoles or conventional controllers.
On mobile, these easy access, free to play, easy to play games are there in your face, aggressively promoted through social media and the app stores, for free, on a device you already own and use every day. That's why you have 3 Billion downloads for Angry Birds. Yeah, Billions. With a B.

Well, why not tell me then where can I find this praise. By looking at the real world, nobody seems to care about Wii U, and by looking at the message boards, nobody seems to care about Wii U. Yet, it's supposed to have insanely good games that everybody likes.

There was Starfox and Splatoon, and if I recall, quite a few other games was using the controller as a mandatory controller, at least for multiplayer.

And what might the articles be? Are they made by the Wii crowd or who? I'm personally in the Wii crowd - just like many of my friends - and I really don't see how the free games on mobile would appeal to the Wii crowd in general. Yeah, the mobile games are free but that's just about it. It's not the waste of money were talking about, but waste of time. The soccer moms that were playing Wii Fit to get fit, which games they are now playing on mobile to get fit? Why would Angry Birds appeal to them, but not Splatoon? If there are 3 billion Angry Birds downloads, what's the point in making games like Call of Duty, as COD obviously don't sell the amount of Angry Birds downloads. And, how do you play games like Wii Sports on mobile?

The industry AAA games are not good enough for the Wii audience. We demand better.

You do realize how aggregate review sites work, right? They take the reviews of all the major gaming press and produce an average. Most also include user reviews, which tells you what your average joe thinks of the games. To say that Nintendo has the biggest ratio of highly-rated exclusives goes without saying... though even Sony and Microsoft's execs often put that into words.

Just because the Wii U was a financial failure does not mean that it didn't have some of the best games of the generation. Just think about music and cinema. Many of the best films and albums are flops on their initial release. Popularity depends primarily on market trends, advertising, and how easily digestible that content is to the widest denominator - not the quality of the content.
