You can't find positive reasons for the lack of an obvious and common feature, sorry. Mistakes have been made about this, that's all, and even Nintendo didn't succeed in justifying this so far.

We don't even have any details about how their online infrastructure will work. So until that's revealed, you're all jumping the guns here.
