i have never met anyone who does that, I'd say like 99% of people either go the subsidized route or pay out of pocket for the lower end $100-200 phones.

Very few people are paying $1000 upfront for a phone.

I keep hearing it on the internet, "yet people are fine spending 1000$ on a new phone every other year".

I have met only 1 single person like that, who was like the most crazed apple fanboy ever (and rich).

Most people simply dont do it like that.
