Of course being unable to charge while playing is unacceptable in 2017. I already had this issue once, with my Wiimote and the rechargeable battery I had, and it's awful not being able to play when you have time because you forgot to charge it beforehand.

 

But hey, like when you were not supposed to be able to play the Xbox One when not connected to Internet once a day, it's the consumer's fault for not preparing his gaming sessions properly, right?

Considering Sony was losing a couple hundred dollars per unit, that's not exactly the same thing.  Still, that price was too damn high and was mostly Sony's fault for having such expensive HW.  But guess what?  Sony learned from that mistake and thus we have the PS4.  Looking at the Switch, what exactly has Nintendo learned?  I'd say absolutely nothing.  In fact, I'd say they've gotten worse.

They still overestimate the value of their SW, for proof look at VC and what they are offering for the games you can borrow for a month if you use their network.  They still keep chasing that Wii dream, even though late last gen and this one proved motion control was basically dead.  They were talking BS after the 3DS about no more expensive Nintendo HW, then months later launch the Wii U, with its last gen HW, for $349 (this was for the Deluxe, the only model that was at all appealing).  Now, they're asking $299 for a tablet that basically has the same innards of the $199 Shield (which even that should be cheaper, now).  But, since it doesn't come with a game, not even 1, 2 Switch, they are asking $360 for it.  If you want 2 players, which I'm sure most people want, that'll be $440.  If you don't want to keep swapping out Joycons, you need the extra charger, so $470.  Damn, we're getting pretty damn close to that PS3 price.  Hmm.  And I haven't even added in the price of internet.

If Nintendo wanted to actually play it smart this gen, they could have done the EXACT same thing, only using more readily available mobile chips.  Even using more top of the line chips, plus a 6.2" 1080p screen, they could have got this thing on shelves easily for $199.
