Nintendo Switch’s Bundled Joy-Con Grip Won’t Charge the Controllers

Why go to war over this of all things? When my DualShock dies I plug it into the system and wait. When my XOne controller dies I dig around for some AA batteries. When my Joy-Cons die (after one of my routine 20-hour 1-2-Switch sessions) I'll place them back on the system.
