I predicted the wii u would sell more because I thought they would do a pack in of mario kart for Christmas and drop the price and they never did probably because of issues getting the wii u chips as Sony had taken over the company making them. However the point is this time around Nintendo may well drop the price when sales figures turn out to be too low and like the 3DS it could be a success even though initially it looked like a huge flop.
I don't think Nintendo can afford for the Switch to fail and will be more proactive this time in trying to push sales because the alternative is they leave hardware or become a niche player in hardware. I do think being a niche player is possible but I think Nintendo are actually thinking at this point the Switch will be a huge success like the wii. They could be right of course but I personally don't think so.
