I get why you could be frustrated with modern gaming, a lot of direction that the industry has moved toward is outright bad and a lot of companies seem to lack vision these days. This legit might be the closest we ever get to Ps2 days again though so I'm enjoying it while it lasts.

I don'teven get the issue withmodern gaming... i see it as just a phase we have to go through and a way to nabale the kinda experincs we have right now. With a little understanding of tech it all makes sense.

Disc drives are the best and most cost effective way to distribute games as large as HD gaming has become. And disc drives have an nherent flaw, slow read speeds so there is a need to have internal drives that have faster read speeds. Every console having such an internal drive allows devs add DLC to add longevity to their games, but the downside to that is that it also allows them release games "unfinished" with day one patches available.

By the next gen, when we have moved on from standard mechanical drives to SSDs which will add a lot of speed to data transfers.... we will also at least have a much smoother al round gaming experince. I think the pros of the current set up far outweigh the cons.

Nintendo is always behind the curve on things lke these, a gen behind so to speak. At some point, they will be able to make 50GB carts at whatever it cost them now to make their 16GB carts and at that time their hardware will be pushing games with content on par with what we have now on the PS4/XB1.... but by then the PS4 and XB1. And at that time, be rest assured nintendo fans won't have a problem with big game sizes and what not.

I didn't mention anything about the hardware limitations you're talking about d: I don't mind storage and how discs are used in that regard since we have very fast internet where I live  with no download cap. I also have a good understanding of tech, definitely better than the average joe at least. The real issue with the direction of modern gaming has to do with AA being replaced by indies, AAA dwindling down, the way that DLC/Season Passes/Microteansactions are handled, and one of my biggest gripes is that there's a severe lack of innovation in certain genres (for instance, there's too many big budget clones coming out in the fps market that closely resemble each other to justify the complete lack of interesting/creative ideas) among other things. It's become too hard for publishers to green light riskier products that can be considered underselling by only shipping a measily 5 million copies. One of the biggest reasons I've even stuck with Playstaion is because they've shown themselves willing to release unique games that may not break a profit but are still unique or interesting often times with a good story to tell. That's all dying. And the money grab weve seen thanks to the power of the Internet ain't cool either. Now devs can rush out unfinished products that require a day one patch, which to me feels like it's become the standard. That's definitely not cool, follows along the lines of false advertisement in my mind. There's just a lot of things. Tech isn't really one of them, I'm happy on that front.
