I wont lie, payed online sucks. I didn't have it on my Sony consoles and never missed it, but with Nintendo consoles i have pretty consistently actually used the online. Smash, Mario Kart, Mario Maker and Pokken really loose at least a third of their value once you take away online. Heck Splatoon becomes unplayable.
I will have to see pricing and pay model (how flexible is it? Can I buy relatively inexpensive short term passes? How expensive is the long term subscribtion?) to make a final call, but a lot of Nintendos games rely more on online than people realize.
edit: I should probably mention that I never had much of a problem with Nintendos free online, despite the occasional disconnect in Splatoon, wich really didn't bother me too much. I get that people hope for a more stable connection out of this, but I'm fine with the way it is.
