Well, everybody knows PS4 cumulative sales haven't been defied at any moment since the gen started, they already have released the numbers for holidays and cumulative so this PR stunt can only mean they are trying to hide the loss at this NPD, and don't forget MS haven't made their stunt yet so they can say they are the best selling HW since December 1st.
