The reason the system is so totally fucked up is because the US is a plutocracy and we have an unfortunately large group of brain-dead drooling morons (conservatives) who vehemently support it. These idiots actually believe that if they work hard then one day they will be rich. Little do they realise that their hard work makes some wealthy jackass who doesn't know the meaning of hard work even wealthier. I know dozens of those kind of people and it is impossible to reason with them. They don't want to hear the truth. They actually believe that the wealthy work as hard as they do!
