If anything it will be pointed to when people claim a "winner" of E3 how game announcements are nice, but see how they play out over following 3-4 years.

For example, I love The Last Guardian, but Shenmue III and Final Fantasy VII:R could end up not coming out until 2018/2019 and end up with serious issues (I hope not) making that Sony conference not seem quite a smind blowing as it felt at the time. We shall see.

while you do have a strong point, that line of thinking just doesnt occur at E3. announcements are going to be made and people will compare the shows. hell, even if a show has decent announcements but some crappy segements happen it will "ruin" the show. E3 is the place for exciting big announcements, and thats how people will always view it.

in reality, nobody is going to wait a year or two to talk about who won E3, they are going to do so once the confrences finish. while the results and opinions will surely change with time. the fact is that is always how its going to be.

I agree.  The point is what value does "winning" E3 hold if it fails to convert to games and success?

I also think anyone should hold off buying any console for the promise of a specific title in the future.  I planned on buying a Wii U the day Zelda came out...still waiting to the point likely will never own one and get a Switch instead.
