I'm 5'8 if my math is correct (173cm), guess I'm shortish by today's standards. I never considered myself short though, and less distance to fall when wiping out is a bonus :)
When I was young I always though taller people have a better view, looking over crowds, especially in the cinema. Sitting behind a tall person did suck now and then. Then one of my friends told me, you can enjoy the scenery while standing in public transport, I have to stare at the top of the window frame all the time and have no clue where we are. My uncle has to duck going through a door and watch out for ceiling lamps, doesn't seem too much of an advantage.
