Telltale was founded by former LucasArts members and afaik that's the reason they are the only company which got the permission to use two of LucasArts' famous adventure IPs (Monkey Island and Sam & Max) to actually develop NEW games (for comparison: Tim Shafer's company DoubleFine so far has "only" got the permission to remaster adventure games he worked on while being one of the hotshots at LucasArts: Grim Fandango, Day of the Tentacle, Full Throttle - 2 genre masterpieces and 1 very good game, btw).
I think Telltale's three Sam & Max games and Tales of Monkey Island are pretty good and all of them are recommendable, but the originals they're based on (LucasArts' Sam & Max Hit the Road and especially the outstanding original Monkey Island trilogy - like many other fans I ignore LucasArts' Monkey Island 4) are still far better imo.
By the way: Lovers and haters of Telltale's interactive movies can thank David Cage for Telltale's shift in direction. It's no coincidence that they released their first interactive movie Jurassic Park after the enormous success of Cage's Heavy Rain. And then they discovered a gold mine with The Walking Dead license and easily surpassed Cage's success.
