There was also a tweet made by Square Enix (EU) that confirmed Dragon Quest XI for USA and EU for the end of 2017, but it was swiftly taken down soon there after, according to French website: Dragon Quest Fan

The issue with Dragon Quest's appeal to the west was the fact that they quit during the crucial era of the SNES. Final Fantasy didn't do well in the US either but they made sure the SNES games were localized. Around that time Enix of America had gone belly up until 2001 with the release of DQVII. If Dragon Quest V, VI, and 3 Remix were localized, I think Dragon Quest would have done much better than it is doing now in the west. However, the last 2 mainline Dragon Quest games did fairly well in the US and EU with VIII and IX both doing over 1.2 million in sales. Heroes has also done 250k across US and EU which is pretty good for a spinoff.

Hopefully the Switch version of Dragon Quest XI is based off the PS4 version. That'd be glorious.
