1 - Super Mario Bros
This is the game that began everything for me. Certainly, Super Mario Bros 3 improved every aspect of it, but the core design, what makes Mario great, was already in this game, from the tight controls to the top notch level design, filled with secrets and surprises. I still remember my first 1-up mushroom, calling fire Mario “plumber Mario”, the secret blocks, the warp pipes… Objectively, Super Mario Bros 3 was a better game, but I can help to appreciate what this game did. Videogames and their language were a whole new world back then, and discovering it with this game was an unforgettable experience.
