The reason why the vita, psp, and whatever dedicated mobile hardware lost was because the juggernaut that is the nintendo dedicated mobile line of hardware. If it wasn't Nintendo, it wasn't going to work. It's the same reason why Nintendo can't seem to sell their home consoles. There is a stigma that helps and hurts nintendo. Their handheld is great because of the catalog of great games that came before. Games that can exist as either handheld or console. Handheld nintendo is the reverse sony console. Where the handheld is for everyone, their home consoles is for a niche. Where sony's home console is for everyone, the Vita is the niche.
