Could a rebranded vita be successful?

I can't see it. Most of it's games are available on other platforms. A combo of say Switch + ps4/PC would give you a wider range of games to play than say Vita + ps4/PC. I am not saying that to bash the system cause the games on it is nice for its target audience but what the handheld needs is exclusives that really sell the system like MH, Pokemon and etc.

Plus everyone will remember how Sony treated the vita and will probably get the Switch anyway. Sony would not only need to secure exclusives that sell the system but also bring back consumer confidence which is the hardest thing to do.
