Yea, I did argue with him. Tried arguing that the custom architecture of the PS3 is what was holding it back from a faster drop to sub $299, and with more off the shelf components, PS4 and XBO wouldn't see that same slow decline in price. Wish I remembered who it was. They may be gone for all I know. Had the link saved in my bookmarks, but have since reinstalled Windows and don't feel like searching for it in my post history. Thinking more about it, it may have been $249 and not $299. Either way, still too high. I definitely see it hitting $149 in less than two years. |
Newegg already had PS4 Slim Uncharted 4 bundle for $210 this December. If the game is valued at just $11, PS4 is already $199. Next year Sony might bundle even more games, refresh the model to 1TB HDD, and permanently drop the price to $249. If we saw PS4 bundles for $210-240 from many retailers this year despite $299 MSRP of the recently launched Slim model, it wouldn't be surprising to see deals for $150-180 next holiday season when PS4 turns 4 years old. I could see the Pro deals for $300-325. The APU inside PS4 Slim is dirt cheap now, probably costing Sony $30 at this point. Next generation memory formats are GDDR5X and HBM2. 8GB GDDR5 is cheap since it's lower end technology in 2017.
