I was thinking the same. Android shouldn't be costing them anything (unless there are fees somehow associated with running the OS on a TV instead of, say, a mobile device) and Google is happy to get the Google Play Store on those devices. However, I've never bought a Sony TV since the 90s, so I'm not sure if they fork the Store out of their devices or not. A true "Playstation TV" would be a really great idea. It would require some better-than-usual Sony marketing to generate a proper level of interest.

Does MS still make money from Android OS or is that patent crap over? If they still get money for it, I wonder if Google would pass that cost onto Sony etc.

I can only guess that they do, but I haven't heard about it in a long time. I remember there used to be stories about how Microsoft was making more money off of Android royalties than Windows Phone, but nothing recent to speak of. Maybe they have some kind of deal in place to ease up on the constant litigation all those companies loved to engage in half a decade ago.
