Thank you for your great answers. I wasn´t arguing that those were giant plot holes. But it was frustating how close this movie could have come to greatness but failed. May be the last 10 years playing Halo and Mass Effect, and reading militaristic SciFi has made me more picky. I tried to go to this movie blind, but I knew about the reshoots. And that made me pay attention to the droped plot points and general narative. It´s clear they rebuilt the movie and patched some key elements. There is no real overall history arch for any character. We don´t see Jyn growing, however that was seted up many times in the first act. Diego Luna moral dilemas are only hinted. We have no idea the pilot´s motivation. There are too many loose threads Most of that was droped because a 2h running time and an extended final battle. Basicaly what went wrong with BvS and Suicide Squad. Only I just don´t get why people give RO a pass. |
I agree on that, it's not perfect. The character development issue and the first act of the film seems to be everyone's major critique. Mine as well. Still, I was more than satisfied.
I do have something else. They put C-3P0 and R2-D2 in the wrong place. They have them in the hangar when the X-Wings take off, but that makes little sense because that would require them to quickly double back to Captain Antilles who has been given his mission by senator Organa prior to that scene. Obviously the droids are on board the ship in IV, so it was probably better to have them stand there with their Captain in that previous scene.
