Ummm..... Interesting experience, I guess. I was expecting to hear something about the clerk telling the person not to get it...

That happens a lot according to people and I would be really pissed if that happened with me or around me. If I heard a clerk trying to convince someone to get a 360 instead of a PS3 I would literally do everything in my argumentative power to point out how good a deal the PS3 is and I'm sure I would out argue the average EB clerk lol

It's probobly never wise to try to get people to buy a console. The reason he might segest a 360 verses a PS3 is that for one, he sees them sell, not you. So he nows that sell=good. The other is 400<600. Which is why it's never good idea to try and convice people to spend a lot of money on something when you get jack out of it beyond fanboy glory. You could be the reason the man buys a product he doesn't like. So let him make his own choice.

So you're telling me a clerk convincing a buyer to buy somehting cheaper (360) over something more expensive (PS3) is good for the store? It's not which makes it even more problematic, pointing out how said person is really a fanboy...

Well if we're going ot be that ruthless about it, then it absolutely makes sense to sell the 360 instead, as my store makes more money per 360 (about 5 dollars!) than it does per PS3 (less than a dollar).

But in reality, the difference for the store is minimal and it actually is in the best interest of the store to simply make the consumer as happy as possible so they will continue shopping in our store. If the consumer really does seem conflicted, I point out the strengths of each system to the best of my ability. Forcing them to buy my console of choice would often seem abrasive and could lead to unhappy customers when they get home.
