They need to stop being so cautious, Nintendo should know how popular their IPs and systems are, especially around the holidays. It really wouldn't be THAT terrible to potentially have overshipped the 3DS, especially when even non holiday months it tends to sell okay. It says something when used 3DS's (like without the box and even sometimes early models) are selling for like 200$ on Ebay right now. That's crazy. A used loose 3DS selling like 20$ over market price of the current model NEW IN BOX 3DS that you would usually get from a store. Bizarro land |
Well, the NES was a major fumble even if the actual sales were unexpected. But the 3DS is over 5 years old and has, iirc, been trending down YoY for a couple of years. I mean, even if they were confident in the PoGo effect, did anyone here seriously ever think until like a month ago that Pokemania would return at the same level it was in the 90s and suddenly Nintendo handhelds would be among the most desired Christmas presents this holiday? I mean, most people here or elsewhere would have laughed at you if you even suggested such a thing months ago. Pokemon just outsold Call of Duty in the US for goodness sake!
