Is lack of gender/racial diversity valid criticism?

Uncharted, more specifically, Naughty Dog have moved away from the white male character. The Last of Us 2 now has a gay female character and Drake is done and is now replaced by a half-white, half-Indian female.

Final Fantasy, Kindgom Hearts are Asian or anime characters. 

Kratos is not white - well, he now literally is because of the ashes. Jade said he was a mixture of white, Asian, black and middle eastern. He'/ clearly not white before the ashes.

Now you can say that some games feature white male characters but they are also adding non-white males like Dishonored 2, Assassin's Creed: Syndicate, Black Ops 3, Mass Effect: Andromeda, Battlefield 1. Then there are the franchises that they change to a non-white protagonist like Mafia 2, Watch Dogs 2 or Far Cry 4.

You really cannot say that white males make up most of the new games' playable characters.

So basically they're slowly mixing whites with non-whites? Ok. I'm fine with that.

 

As long as it isn't "HEY, WE'RE ADDING NEW RACES AND GENDERS!", then I'm ok with it.
