I thought that too, until I tried Wayward sky, Bound, Tethered, Robot rescue and many others after those. 3rd person is just as immersive as 1st person experiences. Rez Infinite is 3rd person, best game so far! (You can unlock 1st person mode too, too close to the action!)

Who knows. Maybe Nintendo will real people in with a Pilotwongs VR and then get them to try a Mario VR after. Miyamoto just doesn't seem to think it will match Mario.
