We lost our last cat for ten days, thinking it ran away or was grabbed by something. It turned out that it was stuck *scared to run out when the door was open* in a neighbouring barn.
You should have seen it miauw when we finally found it. It was sure missing its humans 
.
I hope your cat gets better.
