Student loans debate - fair game for students?

Graduate in 2007 in BEng - 50K debt paid off in 2014 via minimum compulsory repayments.

Been working for 9 years now. Got a huge mortgage debt 500k+ (won't mention exact). Work, pay debts sleep is the cycle.

Life isn't that hard just focus and get a degree that will get you a job.
