Islam is never the problem, the problem lies with the corrupt people telling you about the religion. The Saudis have exported the Wahhabi/Salafi orthodox interpretation of their Islam to other countries.
It also has to do with culture. The Arab world and Afghanistan are the problematic places, but the Turkic world, Indonesia, Balkans for example are much more tolerant.
