3D audio isn't a gimmick, it's been a thing for almost a decade now and it's actually a performance enhancing feature for competitive multiplayer games d: it's basically what lets you hear the direction of someone running around you without having to rely on visual cues. Like you can literally hear where they are like in real life. This is probably just the first time SONY has wanted to use the feature in their games because they've never really needed it before due to a lack of presence in the multiplayer scene (but games like TLOU or Days Gone could make excellent use of 3D audio, where you're stealthily sneaking around and able to hear the direction of zombies nearby). But there's no gimmick tech here, these headphones are offering tried and true technology unless I'm missing something
