Finished it. I don't think it's particulary bad, but definitely not great imho. It has some neat exploration, gameplay is kind of decent, and main characters are likable. Also, it's graphically impressive with tons of eye-popping moments. But, story is laughably bad because of bad storytelling. I'm glad that SE noticed that and want to patch it. Story is totally non-sense in the second half. I see some good concepts in the plot, but really badly done. I think it definitely needed more... parts. It's way too rushed in the end, and it's really frustrating. Side quests are repetitive and add almost anything to the world. It's just the best way of farming experience and... that's it. I don't know how the game would have become with Nomura. But with Tabata is, imo, a mixed bag.

Final Fantasy is still, imo, a shadow of its former self. There were times when FF games were always gonna be the best JRPG of the year. Always. I can name some low-profile RPGs this year which put this game to shame. And that's a pity, because I definitely see potential. Which was totally crushed by some questionable game design decisions and plain bad storytelling.
