Again, having something in common doesn't mean the audience is the same.

A person who is thinking to buy a gaming laptop isn't buying it specifically for gaming but they are buying it to be able to game in addition to doing other things that only a computer can do. And of course, the entire form factor and experience is also different.

A person buying a switch or a handheld would only buy it specifically for gaming.

You don't honestly believe that do you?

Doing other things than gaming is the hook to get parents to buy it. They buy it because they have no other portable gaming option (high end).

See, I don't get this scenario. Gaming laptops will last, maybe if you are really lucky, for an hour off of the battery so they really aren't good at being a so called "portable gaming option." So basically, you have to find a wall outlet if you want to play a demanding game.

Gaming laptops are also expensive for the price people are paying. The highest end mobile i7 that people can get with a reasonable price is an i7 6700HQ atm. That is on par with desktop i3s/low i5s with the i7 being better in some places.

So why wouldn't they just get a desktop instead? Its cause the person in this scenario is most likely going to collage or something so they need a laptop that can do both their homework and day to day things like porn and etc + being able to play games. A switch wouldn't be an option in this scenario cause a Switch can't do any of that stuff other than gaming.

On the other hand, if a person already owns a gaming desktop, there isn't much of a reason for him to own a gaming laptop aside from being able to do computer tasks as well as gaming. Cause again, gaming laptop's battery doesn't last so long that you can play it anywhere as well as the price and the form factor (since they essentially require a table of some kind). He can't play games on the car, on the train, on the bus and etc.

But maybe explain your scenario a little bit more so I can understand it better.
